Job Responsibilities

This position reports to the Chief of Police and the primary responsibilities for the Communications Specialist II will maintain efficient operation of the Public Safety dispatch center by coordinating police/public safety communications network for multi-campus operations and performing administrative duties. Under general supervision, performs highly responsible duties on communication equipment; provides information and assistance to public safety officers, other law enforcement agencies, internal departments, and the general public. Responsible for dispatching officers for routine and emergency calls for service and emergency calls for service, relaying information, and coordinating assistance from outside agencies as required.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

This position requires a high school diploma and experience in one of the following areas: communications, switchboard exchange operations, clerical accounting, billing or working with the general public.

Preferred Qualifications

Ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of FCC rules & regulations about transmitting information on 800 MHZ radio systems. Knowledge of radios, SLED/NCIC 2000, computer-aided dispatch (CAD), records management system (RMS), office equipment, computers, and other communications equipment. Candidate must speak accurately, concisely & clearly. The ability to operate radio and telephone while simultaneously logging information accurately. The candidate will make immediate decisions, take action to control situations, and remain calm and alert with confidence to handle the constant problems associated with these responsibilities.
