Job Responsibilities
The Welding Laboratory Specialist III position will perform lab duties for the welding program including purchasing, installing, operating and maintaining laboratory equipment. Teach assigned courses as needed in the welding program using systematically planned and delivered instruction, maintain records of student academic progress and attendance, evaluate level of achievement and assign grades. Teaching assignments may include day, evening, weekends and off-site curriculum. Serve as lead technician for all troubleshooting and repair of complex/specialized eletro-mechanical equipment for the welding program. This may include working directly with vendor technical support when needed. Must have the ability to lift 100 pounds, carry 50 pounds, stoop, kneel, crawl and continuously walk and stand.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
The position requires an associate degree and four (4) years of work experience at an advanced skill level in precision welding shop operations; or high school diploma and six years (6) of work experience at an advanced skill level in precision welding shop operations.
Preferred Qualifications
An associate degree in welding technology or a closely related field plus a minimum of four (4) years of work experience or a high school diploma and ten (10) years of work experience to include welding training and teaching theory and application of: SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, oxyacetylene cutting (OAC) and plasma-arc cutting (PAC) processes is preferred. Practical knowledge and experience in all welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, and FCAW). Must be able to track purchase requisitions and other budget/shipping/receiving documents. Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills are essential. Must be able to successfully pass a welding skills test in all processes taught within the program. Candidates must be able to function in an environment characterized by continual changes, policies, and laws in education.
