Job Responsibilities

Trident Technical College, located in Charleston, SC, is a public, two-year multi-campus institution is seeking a qualified Electrician. This position is under the general supervision of and reports to the Building/Grounds Manager. This position will perform duties in accordance with applicable codes, laws, accepted trade practices, and safety procedures.

These duties include but are not limited to:

  • Installing, maintaining, modifying, troubleshooting, or repairing electrical panel boards, bus bar assemblies, disconnect switches, branch circuit wiring, devices and fixtures, lighting, control wiring and circuits, and other electrical equipment as required.
  • Assisting with installing power circuits and data lines for data processing equipment.
  • Operating heavy equipment, including, but not limited to, forklifts, boom trucks, personnel lifts, digging and trenching equipment, tractors, and backhoes.
  • Journeyman-level electrical design of minor construction projects, installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems, and equipment. General building maintenance, renovation, repair, and construction on a routine and emergency basis campus-wide.
  • Providing inputs for annual budgets, identifying major maintenance requirements, making recommendations for repairs and replacements, planning, and scheduling projects, and coordinating project documentation.
  • Assisting before, during, and after severe weather and other emergencies, which may include after-hours and weekends

Minimum and Additional Requirements

Minimum requirements:

  • High school diploma and experience in the construction and/or repair of secondary electrical systems.
  • Relevant experience may be substituted for the required diploma on a year-for-year basis.
  • Valid SC Driver's License
Additional Requirements:

  • Preferred candidates will have a related associate degree or electrician certification, apprenticeship, or military schooling.
  • Applicants are asked to attach transcripts and/or certifications with the application.
  • Veteran applicants, please submit a copy of the DD 214 that includes completion of related schooling.
  • Candidates with SC electrical licenses are highly desirable.



Preferred Qualifications

Ideal candidates will have working knowledge and abilities in:

  • Basic arithmetic and units of measure.
  • Basic understanding of the standard practices and methods of the electrical trade.
  • Use and care of the tools and equipment of the electrical trade.
  • Interpret and work from sketches and blueprints.
  • Follow oral and written instructions and communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Plan the layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures based on job specifications and local codes.
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
  • Test electrical systems or continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures using testing devices, such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, or oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of the system.
  • Use of various tools, such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, and testing equipment, such as oscilloscopes, ammeters, or test lamps.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair and to ensure compliance with codes.
  • Create construction or installation diagrams.
  • Exceptional customer service is a must.
