Job Responsibilities
- This employee will be responsible for performing a variety of duties to implement fisheries management in Region 4.
Job Duties Include:- Collecting a wide range of biological data involving a variety of procedures and sampling devices including nets, traps, seines, and electrofishing gear.
- Processing fish aging structures and aging, and maintaining neat and orderly records of all data collected.
- Regularly maintaining and repairing all project watercraft and equipment, including keeping a maintenance log, negotiating price with service personnel, and keeping a stock of maintenance supplies.
- Informing groups or individuals on the activities, objectives and policies of the department and representing the agency in a professional manner.
- Constructing, maintaining, and monitoring fish attractors in Santee Cooper lakes.
- Scheduling field activities, supervising volunteers working on the project, and assisting visiting scientists with fisheries related field work in Region 4.
- Attending technical fisheries meetings or workshops as requested.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to operate and trailer boats. Experience with routine maintenance of 4-stroke outboards and boat trailers. Knowledge of Region 4 fisheries resources and relevant fish species identification. Experience with both passive and active fisheries sampling gear types. Ability to perform physical tasks of moderate difficulty in varying climatic conditions and during irregular hours. Ability to keep accurate records including maintenance logs and scientific data collections. Ability to communicate effectively with the public and participate at outreach events. Willingness and ability to work outside of regular work hours as needed. Ability to lift heavy objects.
