Supervises a maintenance of crew performing ditching operations on highway right-of-ways. The work includes but not limited to cleaning ditches, installing driveways, repairing pipes, cleaning/repairing drainage structures and repairing/install sidewalks. Supervises a crew of skilled and semi-skilled Highway Maintenance Workers involved in a variety of maintenance activities to maintain and preserve State Maintained roads in a county or district. Maintains daily, weekly, and monthly reports, time sheets, and cost records; recommends personnel actions including promotions, transfers, and disciplinary measures; rates employees yearly according to the Employee Performance Management System. Investigates work requests and schedules necessary work. Inputs work accomplishments into Highway Maintenance Management Systems (HMMS). Operates heavy equipment like Backhoe, Excavator, Front End Loader, Lowboy, Truck Motor Grader, Slope Mower, and Tractor with Ditcher in a variety of maintenance activities. Assists with on call operations for after hour emergencies, and other emergency and inclement weather operations to include Snow and Ice Plan and Hurricane Lane Reversal Plan. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

Three and one-half (3.5) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

Physical Requirement: The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
