Job Responsibilities
Serves as the District Special Projects Engineer, providing oversight of the field construction office, including consultants, engineers, and technicians. Manages the inspection of multiple highway and bridge construction projects within the assigned area. Ensures all projects are delivered in accordance with contract terms and Departmental requirements. Works to identify and resolve issues that arise on assigned projects. Provides daily oversight and coordinates project work schedules for assigned roadway and bridge construction projects involving inspection and surveying activities. Establishes and monitors work processes to ensure efficiency and quality. Implements management policies and initiatives while promoting teamwork and collaboration within the organization. Coordinates the relocation of utilities that conflict with roadway and bridge construction, ensuring proper alignment and elevation. Represents SCDOT at public hearings and serves as a liaison with county and municipal officials. Responds to inquiries from the general public and other stakeholders. Monitors contractor schedules on assigned projects to ensure adherence to contract timelines and project milestones. Monitors budgets for all construction projects and controls costs through close oversight of project processes and the application of innovative engineering techniques. Ensures the quality of construction projects by implementing appropriate sampling and testing procedures to verify compliance with specifications and standards. Prepares, reviews, and submits all required project documentation in a timely manner to ensure proper project closeout. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and five (5) years of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
Physical Requirements: The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. This position may require travel. This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. This position requires driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise. Must be able to work outside in various weather conditions, subject to dust, excessive noise, and traffic hazards for extended periods of time. Required to work additional hours on occasion during inclement weather or emergency situations. May require overnight stay on occasion due to training conferences or to provide assistance in other parts of the state during severe inclement weather or emergency situations.
A motor vehicle operator’s license is required.Additional Comments
