Responsibilities of the IT Manager I:
Manages information technology-related activities for the agency, including system administration, network support, operating systems, telecommunications systems, cybersecurity, and end-user services. Provides oversight of the planning, implementation, maintenance, and support of technology systems required for daily operations. Manages relationships with technology vendors, contractors, and service providers to ensure reliable, secure, and effective technology services for the agency. The job duties of this position include but are not limited to the following:
- Supervises staff to include preparing performance planning and evaluation documents and related personnel paperwork. Coaches, counsels and trains employees. Establishes and monitors work processes. Implements management policies and initiatives and promotes teamwork.
- Direct the operation, maintenance, and support of the agency's information technology systems and services to ensure employees can effectively conduct business. Oversees the availability and performance of critical technology infrastructure, applications, and end-user systems to support daily agency operations.
- Oversee the agency's communication systems, including computer networks, telecommunications, email systems, wireless connectivity, and related technologies. Ensure reliable and secure communication capabilities are available to agency staff, contractors, and business partners.
- Manage relationships with technology vendors. contractors, and service providers, including help desk, network, telecommunications, cybersecurity, and infrastructure support services. Monitor contract performance. service level agreements. project deliverables. and expenditures to ensure agency technology needs are met efficiently and cost effectively.
- Ensure compliance with applicable state information technology standards, cybersecurity requirements, and agency policies. Coordinate security assessments, vulnerability management, incident response activities, and risk mitigation efforts to protect agency systems, data, and operations.
- Ensure the reliability, security, and maintenance of the agency's technology infrastructure, including network equipment, servers, cloud services, backup systems, and disaster recovery capabilities. Maintain appropriate redundancy and continuity measures to minimize operational disruptions.
- Develop, implement, and maintain information technology policies, procedures, standards, inventories, documentation, and strategic plans. Prepare reports, maintain required records, and support long-range planning, budgeting, procurement, and technology lifecycle management.
- Coordinate the delivery of technical support services and technology solutions for agency staff. Evaluate technology needs, recommend hardware and software solutions, oversee implementations and upgrades, and ensure timely resolution of technology-related issues. Maintain and improve technology supporting museum exhibits, tour routes, and visitor experiences.
Minimum and Additional Requirements

A bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, information systems, cybersecurity, or a related field, and experience in telecommunications, data processing, information technology, or network administration. Relevant experience may substitute for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of planning programs and work activities in an information technology environment. Ability to plan and supervise the implementation of short- and long-range information technology-based activities and objectives. Ability to plan, organize, direct, and review the work of technical personnel. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with users, technical staff, management, vendors, and others. Ability to work effectively in a unique and dynamic environment, including technology systems located aboard historic ships, museum facilities, and other non-traditional workspaces.
