Mixing Operator- 1st Shift (7:00am-3:30pm) Must be available to work Monday-Saturday plus overtime as required to meet production needs.

A day in the life of a Mixing Operator at Thorne requires:

  • Following Production Department procedures and performing specific duties based on the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) for the Production Department.
  • Taking a total quality approach to conduct, in operating machines, and in producing Thorne products.
  • Committing to the Mixing Credentialed Training program where the proper operating knowledge, skills and experience are acquired to meet the high quality of proficiency.
  • Setting up quickly, all phases of Mixing and the related equipment for smooth operation and maximum output, while maintaining quality and integrity of the product.
  • Immediately notifying lead/supervisor of any machine problems or anomalies outside of normal operations that effect output and the well-being of the equipment or the quality of the product.
  • Gaining sufficient knowledge of the weighing, sifting, milling roller compaction, and blending equipment to make adjustments, without supervision, within guidelines outlined in the applicable SOP and current Mixing Credentialed Training program level.
  • Awareness of cross-contamination issues while working with multiple raw materials and exhibiting vigilance in taking proper precautions (changes gloves, proper cleaning of equipment in between use of raw materials).
  • Properly weighing out ingredients as directed by the MMR. Recording all weights accurately and neatly on paperwork as directed by the control batch documents and dept. SOP’s.
  • Properly entering and calculating all dispensing weights using a calculator for accuracy and securing a validating second sign off as having done so.
  • Learning and maintaining all technical procedures related to assembly disassembly, and cleaning of equipment and maintaining the overall condition of the machine parts and machine.
  • Collecting the required quantity of samples as directed by the control batch record and accurately performing slug tests and all other tests as required. Operating forklifts properly, keeping certified annually, and maintaining a safe working environment while doing so.
  • Operating a forklift properly and maintaining annual certification

*This is a non-exempt (hourly) position.

What You Need:

  • Experience and/or Education: Minimum High school diploma or GED is required. Prior manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Physical Ability: Ability to lift, unassisted, approximately 30kg (66 pounds) from floor to shoulder height, while maintaining full control of product on a regular basis
  • Math Ability: Employee has the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in the units of measurement used in the Production Department, using whole numbers and decimals (for example, converting grams to kilograms).
  • Ability to work a 1st shift schedule (regular schedule, not rotating) with some overtime required
