FORMULATIONS SCIENTIST I

POSITION SUMMARY: The Formulation Scientist I will lead the formulation team in implementing new and innovative, formulation knowledge, alongside guidance from historical formulation knowledge for the assessment and development of new products, reformulations, and clinical trials. They will additionally support the overall goals of product and portfolio development, and other related tasks as assigned by the Chief Innovation Officer (CIO) and Research and Development Formulation Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES – Satisfactorily performing and/or achieving the following Responsibilities are essential duties of the job.
- Participate in new product ideations and concept development sessions with the Chief Innovation Officer, Research and Development Formulation Manager; and the Director, Research and Development.
- Support the development and commercialization of new products (Innovation) under the direction of the Chief Innovation Officer with the formulation science team. Includes: Support formulation efforts for Engineering during product development process up to the technology transfer hand off to Manufacturing. Create product development formulas for Engineering’s proof of concept work. Review and refine product development formulas for Engineering’s Technical Transfer documentation based on proof of concept results. Confirm and manage label attribution data through the use of software, like Genesis R&D software.
- Support the sourcing of new ingredients in new product development in collaboration with the materials management group. Includes: Evaluation and cataloging of raw ingredient technical data. Implement the creation of Raw Material Specifications for new ingredients.
- Collaboratively review stability test results with the Research and Development Formulation Manager and formulation science team to properly utilize data to properly formulate products for commercialization, or for product renovation.
- Ensure proper formulation of products by determining correct “Activity Value” for new ingredients based on all supporting documentation. Includes: Review of vendor documentation and pharmacopoeial monographs. Communicate with supplier’s technical department (when necessary). Communicate with Quality Control (when necessary).
- Maintain knowledge of new process technologies, compendial product testing requirements, and formulation regulations in accordance with 21 CFR.
What You Need:
Experience and/or Education: Bachelor’s degree in an applicable area such as chemistry, biochemistry, food science or related is required.
