POSITION SUMMARY: The Engineer ensures that all necessary components, tasks, and resources are capable of meeting established quality standards and goals, and supports department operations to ensure compliance with cGMP and OSHA regulations, company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as well as meeting production goals as directed by the Engineering Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES – Satisfactorily performing and/or achieving the following Responsibilities are essential duties of the job. · Process Development responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Apply engineering and science fundamentals to create new methods and programs that lead to production and systems improvements.
- Perform new product process development including (or directing the performance of) benchwork formulation, powder characterization, encapsulation, and packaging.
- Pilot batch setup and process optimization of new processes.
- Determine –packaging standards (primary packaging, secondary packaging, label).
- Technical Transfer, following process through pilot batch.
- Support Product Development by performing R&D Assessment for New Products and Clinical Trial products.
- Research new process equipment and with end user(s) create equipment user requirement specifications (URS).
- Create required GMP documents to manufacture and test pilot batch and stability products.
- Work to improve manufacturing processes after program launch.
- Maintain knowledge of new process technologies.
- Attend on and/or off-site continuous training to keep abreast of new technologies and/or processes.
Production Support responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Current powder production process improvement and optimization
- Current product production support and continuous improvement
- Machinery troubleshooting.
- Machinery support for entire life cycle (specification, FAT, installation, improvements…etc.).
- Machinery / Room CAD drawings.
- SOP / Change Control generation & review.
- Depending on schedule, provide tech support either earlier in the day or straddle 2nd shift.
- Coordinate with Production Departments to improve productivity and efficiency.
- Identify gaps in equipment capabilities and recommends alternatives.
- Provide technical support for the Manufacturing floor.
- Problem solve and work with Production and Engineering staff in determining root causes to prevent processing and/or machinery issues from reoccurring.
- Perform Powder Characterization tasks and complete responses to discovered problems prior to encapsulation.
- Provide technical support and advice as required in response to process and equipment problems to other groups as requested by the Engineering Manager.
- Occasional support of MRB activities will be required.
Additional Operations Support that may include, but not limited to the following:
- Evaluate data and provide reports to management on a variety of topics as requested by the Engineering Manager.
- Support general operations concerning the AutoCAD drawings as directed by the Engineering Manager.
- Coordinate with vendors concerning raw material problems and solutions as directed by the Engineering Manager.
- Perform Corrective Action responses to various audit or production related problems as directed by the Engineering Manager.
- Actively participate in all required training and development programs and electives as may suit one’s needs, and support colleagues, trainers and management as appropriate with these efforts.
What You Need:
Experience and/or Education: Bachelor’s degree in an applicable engineering or scientific field, with documented combination of education and experience readily available. 7+ years’ hands-on experience in process development, production support, manufacturing engineering, or another relevant field in and FDA-regulated environment highly preferred. Alternatively, a candidate may have a master’s degree in an applicable field and 3+ years of relevant experience or meet the minimum requirements of an Engineer II and an additional 5+ years’ experience and demonstrate time management, project management, and leadership skills.
