Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) has an exciting opportunity for a Lead Software Systems Engineer to join the P-8 Missions System Software Engineering team in Kent, WA.
The P-8 Mission Systems Software architecture team needs a strong software architect on-site to lead a software product baseline team.
The P-8 Poseidon program is the premier Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) platform for the US Navy and several international partners. Candidates will belong to an Agile software engineering development team that supports architecture, requirements, framework, operating system, and application development.
This engineer shall lead, oversee, and direct design, development, analysis, and maintenance of software systems, possess applicable domain experience, and work with internal and external teams across the P-8 Program to support a software product baseline. Duties include but are not limited to: developing requirements, creation of design documentation inputs/formatting, technical coordination/cross-training, software development, and software validation and testing.
Position Responsibilities:
Leads the planning of software development tasks including detailed software design, coding, and unit/integration/functional/system testing of customer desired features/user stories, ensuring successful achievement of acceptance criteria
Leads and oversees the design, architecture, prototyping, and development of mission computing and software modernization
Partners with software and hardware stakeholders to inform system definition and oversees translation of system-level requirements into software requirements to meet Navy customer capability requests
Provides cross-team architecture level guidance for P-8 Mission Systems Software including estimation of new business and opportunities
Reviews completion of software system-level analyses to identify risk, issues and opportunities; leads integration and deployment of mitigation actions throughout the software lifecycle
Leads code reviews to ensure alignment to requirements and standard
Mentor’s junior engineers and provide cross-training within the team by implementing and documenting standard design, test, and execution processes and procedures
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor’s Degree
This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)
9+ years’ experience with software development on Windows or Linux
5+ years’ experience with Java or C++
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science and 9+ years of related work experience OR Bachelor’s Degree and 13+ years of directly related work experience OR 17+ years of related, relevant experience
Strong systems thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills
Practical experience with requirements decomposition, requirements tracing and configuration management
Familiar with standard engineering tools such as requirements management (DOORS or similar), MBSE (MSOSA/Cameo or similar), test management, and common collaboration tools (Jira, Confluence, Git)
Experience with mission systems, avionics, command & control architectures, embedded systems, sensor systems, or related defense/space programs.
Experience with Agile or SAFe practices, including daily standup, User Stories, Sprints, and Release Planning
Experience using dependency management and automation services (e.g. Maven, Git, Jenkins, etc.)

Summary Pay Range: USD $158,100 - $213,900
