Job Description
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance on all terminal HVAC and industrial electrical systems.
- Repair HVAC systems.
- Remove and replace defective/failed HVAC equipment.
- Troubleshoots terminal and buildings electrical issues.
- Efficiently repair electrical controls and equipment.
- Utilize Arc mitigation equipment and proper grounding devices.
- Clear understanding of High Voltage Air switches and SF6 switches for load interruption.

- Job planning, material ordering, inventory control and general administrative duties.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience (certifications, licenses, training, etc.)
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Minimum three (3) years experience in HVAC service field; universal EPA HVAC certified.
- Requires satisfactory completion of mechanical exam.
- Electrical Journeyman
- High Voltage training.
- A valid South Carolina driver’s license is required to operate a Ports Authority owned licensed motor vehicle.
Preferred Qualifications
- EPA HVAC certified, EPA 608 Universal Certification or Type 1
- 5KV – 15KV Certified
- 1-2 Years as an industrial electrician
Skills and Abilities (vocational, mathematical, reasoning, language, human relations, self-management, required equipment, etc.)
- Strong trouble shooting skills are required.
- Knowledge of general facilities maintenance is required.
- Good interpersonal and team building skills are required.
- Basic computer skills are required.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Must be capable of standing, walking, and/or sitting for a minimum of eight (8) hours per day.
- Must be capable of bending, stooping, and/or kneeling for a minimum of four (4) hours per day.
- Must be capable of climbing stairs and/or ladders over fifteen (15) feet numerous times per day.
- Must be capable of lifting and/or carrying items of not more than fifty (50) pounds for a minimum of eight (8) hours per day.
- Must be capable of lifting items overhead several times per day.
- Must be capable of comfortably working at heights greater than ninety (90) feet.
- Must have vision correctable to 20/20 in at least one eye.
- Must be capable of hearing spoken (including radio) communications and audible alarms and warning devices.
- Must be capable of speaking clearly for both face-to-face and radio communications.
- Must be capable of wearing the required personal protective equipment (e.g., safety glasses, safety shoes, hard hat, reflective vests, hearing protection, fall protection).
- Must be capable of wearing a respirator (for initial hire into the Heavy Lift Maintenance Department only).
- Must be capable of using small hand tools (e.g., screw drivers, wrenches) and power tools (e.g., drills, impact wrenches).
