Process Improvement Intern
Description
Position Summary
Scout Boats is seeking Manufacturing Asset & NFC Implementation Interns to assist with a large-scale project to digitally identify and register more than 2,000 production molds used throughout our manufacturing facilities.
Each mold will be assigned a unique digital asset identity and linked to Scout's manufacturing asset registry. Interns will physically install pre-programmed NFC (Near Field Communication) tags and corresponding QR identification tags onto molds throughout the facility.
Once completed, employees will be able to scan a mold using a compatible mobile device to access its digital asset information and associated mold inspection/checklist information.
This is a hands-on internship combining manufacturing, fiberglass/composite work, asset management, and digital manufacturing technology.
Primary Responsibilities
· Locate and identify production molds throughout Scout's manufacturing facilities.
· Verify each mold against the digital asset registry before installation.
· Confirm the correct asset number/name and pre-programmed NFC tag are matched to the correct mold.
· Prepare designated areas of fiberglass/composite molds for permanent NFC installation.
· Carefully create/recess the required installation area in the fiberglass where applicable.
· Install the pre-programmed NFC tag in the designated location.
· Apply resin or the approved protective material over the NFC tag to permanently secure and protect it.
· Install the corresponding QR identification tag adjacent to the NFC tag.
· Scan and test NFC and QR tags after installation to verify they connect to the correct digital asset record.
· Update the asset registry to confirm installation and record required asset information.
· Capture photographs and other documentation where required.
· Identify and report molds with missing, incorrect, duplicated, or unclear identification.
· Maintain accurate records of completed and outstanding installations.
· Follow all required manufacturing and safety procedures while working throughout the facility.
What We Are Looking For
· Current student, technical-school student, or recent graduate interested in manufacturing, engineering, composites, technology, maintenance, or related fields.
· Comfortable performing hands-on work in an active manufacturing environment.
· Strong attention to detail — matching the correct NFC tag and digital record to the correct physical mold is critical.
· Ability to follow a repeatable installation procedure consistently.
· Comfortable using hand tools and performing basic fiberglass/composite preparation work after appropriate training.
· Comfortable using smartphones, tablets, QR codes, NFC technology, and digital data-entry systems.
· Organized and able to accurately track a large number of physical assets.
· Able to work independently while maintaining quality and accuracy.
Previous fiberglass/composite experience is helpful but not required. Training will be provided for the approved installation process.
What You Will Learn
This project provides practical experience with:
· NFC and QR technology in manufacturing
· Digital asset management and traceability
· Manufacturing asset registries
· Fiberglass and composite manufacturing
· Mold management and preventative inspection systems
· Digital transformation within a manufacturing facility
· Manufacturing data collection and verification
Project Scope
Scout Boats has more than 2,000 molds requiring identification, verification, digital registration, and physical NFC/QR installation.
Because of the size of the project, Scout is seeking a minimum of two interns, with additional interns potentially added depending on availability and project schedule.
This position is particularly well suited to someone who enjoys hands-on work and wants to see how modern digital technology can be integrated directly into a manufacturing environment.
