Position Summary
We are seeking an Entry-Level Electrical Design Engineer to join our engineering team and support the design, documentation, testing, and production of electrical systems for boats.
Working under the direction of the Senior Electrical Design Engineer, this position will provide an opportunity to develop practical experience in marine electrical system design, wiring harness development, electrical documentation, component selection, and production support.
The ideal candidate is an organized, detail-oriented engineer who enjoys solving problems, learning how products are built, and working closely with both engineering and manufacturing teams. The successful candidate will develop their technical skills while contributing to the design and improvement of production boats.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Design & Engineering Support
· Assist the Senior Electrical Design Engineer with the development of electrical systems for new and existing boat models.
· Create and update electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, harness drawings, and related documentation under engineering direction.
· Assist with electrical system layouts, wire routing, component locations, and electrical architecture.
· Perform basic electrical calculations, including wire sizing, voltage drop, circuit loading, and circuit protection.
· Assist with the selection and specification of electrical components.
· Develop and maintain electrical bills of materials, wire lists, component lists, and other engineering documentation.
· Assist with engineering changes and updates to existing boat models.
· Assist in design of different enclosures for electrical components.
· Participate in design reviews and engineering meetings.
· Maintain accurate revision control of electrical drawings and documentation.
Standards & Compliance
· Learn and apply applicable marine electrical standards and company engineering requirements.
· Develop familiarity with ABYC, USCG, NMMA, and other applicable standards.
· Assist in reviewing designs for compliance under the direction of the Senior Electrical Design Engineer.
· Maintain awareness of electrical safety requirements and company design practices.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field. Industry experience can be considered in place of degree.
· 0–2 years of professional engineering experience; recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
· Basic understanding of electrical circuits and DC electrical systems.
· Ability to read and understand electrical schematics.
· Basic understanding of wire sizing, voltage drop, circuit protection, and electrical loads.
· Familiarity with CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, SolidWorks Electrical, EPLAN, or similar.
· Strong computer skills and willingness to learn engineering software and company systems.
· Strong attention to detail.
· Good organizational and documentation skills.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
· Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, production personnel, and other departments.
· Willingness to learn and work in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
· The following are helpful but not required:
· Internship or co-op experience in electrical engineering or manufacturing.
· Exposure to marine, automotive, recreational vehicle, aerospace, powersports, or other vehicle electrical systems.
· Familiarity with electrical connectors, terminals, wire harnesses, and circuit protection.
· Basic knowledge of NMEA 2000 marine network.
· Experience using a multimeter or other electrical test equipment.
· Hands-on experience building or troubleshooting electrical systems.
· Personal or academic projects involving electrical systems, controls, robotics, vehicles, boats, or similar products.
Relationship with Senior Electrical Design Engineer
· The Senior Electrical Design Engineer will provide technical direction, mentoring, design review, and approval for the Electrical Design Engineer I.
· The Electrical Design Engineer I will be expected to:
· Seek guidance when encountering unfamiliar or complex electrical design issues.
· Prepare preliminary designs and documentation for review.
· Incorporate feedback from design reviews.
· Learn and follow established company electrical design standards.
· Gradually assume responsibility for increasingly complex engineering tasks.
· Develop the knowledge and judgment necessary to eventually manage electrical design projects with greater independence.
· This structure provides the opportunity for the engineer to gain hands-on experience while maintaining appropriate technical oversight for production boat electrical systems.
