Clamp Up Technician

Position Summary

The Clamp-Up Technician is responsible for assembling, positioning, aligning, and securing boat components during the manufacturing process. This position ensures hulls, decks, liners, stringers, bulkheads, and other structural components are properly fitted and secured according to engineering specifications, production drawings, work instructions, and company quality standards.

The Clamp-Up Technician plays a critical role in establishing the proper fit, alignment, and structural integrity of the boat before components move to the next stage of production.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Position, align, and secure fiberglass and structural components during boat assembly.
• Perform clamp-up of decks, liners, hull components, stringers, bulkheads, consoles, and other assemblies as assigned.
• Read and interpret blueprints, production drawings, templates, work instructions, and measurement specifications.
• Verify proper fit, alignment, dimensions, gaps, and placement of components before securing.
• Use clamps, fixtures, jigs, blocks, straps, hand tools, and power tools to properly position and secure components.
• Ensure components are properly aligned and maintained in the correct position throughout the bonding and assembly process.
• Prepare surfaces as required prior to bonding, fastening, or assembly.
• Apply adhesives, sealants, bonding materials, and other approved products according to established procedures.
• Monitor and maintain proper pressure, positioning, and alignment while bonding materials cure.
• Inspect completed assemblies for proper fit, alignment, bonding, and workmanship.
• Identify and communicate defects, dimensional issues, damaged components, or other quality concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
• Make necessary adjustments to achieve proper fit and alignment within established specifications.
• Protect finished surfaces and components from damage during assembly.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Properly use and maintain hand tools, power tools, clamps, fixtures, and production equipment.
• Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, quality standards, and production processes.
• Complete required production and quality documentation.
• Work effectively with Lamination, Assembly, Rigging, Finish, and other production departments to maintain workflow.
• Meet established production schedules while maintaining a high standard of workmanship.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous experience in boat manufacturing, fiberglass manufacturing, construction, carpentry, automotive, or another manufacturing environment preferred.
• Mechanical aptitude and the ability to understand how components fit and function together.
• Ability to read and follow measurements, drawings, and written work instructions.
• Ability to use basic hand tools and power tools safely.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to accurately measure and verify component placement and alignment.
• Ability to identify fit, alignment, and workmanship issues.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Reliable attendance and ability to meet production expectations.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and work in awkward or confined positions.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and components as required.
• Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, clamps, and other production equipment.
• Ability to work around fiberglass, dust, adhesives, resins, chemicals, noise, and varying temperatures while wearing required PPE.
• Ability to safely perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
