Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

Comprehensive accountability and authority to expedite placement of all patients to an optimal patient care setting within Roper St. Francis Healthcare. Establishes collaborative relationships with internal and external departments which centers on the patient experience while gaining efficiency for the organization.

Essential Job Functions

  • Coordinates all admissions from ER, System and outlying facilities physician offices for surgery and procedures with the goal of getting the patient to the optimal patient care setting.

  • Ensures room turnover is efficient and expedient by coordinating and delegating bed priority. Communicates clearly with all departments.

  • Promotes “right sizing” the hospital: placing the right patient in the right bed at the right time.

  • Knows and determines real time bed availability and communicates with any and all departments involved in closing or reopening beds.

  • Maintains current knowledge on evidence-based standards to expedite interventions to ensure optimal outcomes.

  • Analyzes data related to admissions and discharges and continuously reevaluates and identifies areas for ongoing improvement.

  • Perform registrations in a timely manner providing for safe patient care. Identification of STAT patients within the ER and timely notification to clinical department. This includes but not limited to, Stemis, hot/cold strokes, Labor and Delivery and STAT patients.

  • Promote correct room charges by ensuring that accommodation codes match patient status. Accommodation codes to be reviewed and changed at set intervals throughout day, with full census reconciliation occurring before midnight

Licensing/Certification

  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of South Carolina or holds a current compact/multi-state license as a Registered Nurse in a recognized NCSBN Compact State and is not a permanent resident of SC.

  • Must have a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card. ACLS recommended.

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited school or college of nursing. BSN required as of February 15, 2022 (required)

Work Experience

  • At least three years of recent nursing experience (recent=current or within the past year) (required)

  • Previous supervisory experience (preferred)

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Frequent sitting. Frequently requires long periods of working at a computer. Intermittent walking, standing, stooping, bending. May require lifting or moving items up to 25 lbs. Frequent use of finger/hand dexterity. Constant talking or hearing. Corrected hearing and vision to normal range. Possible exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue. Possible exposure to infectious materials, communicable diseases and/or other conditions common to a healthcare environment. Requires work under stressful conditions, deadlines, and/or irregular hours. Ability to read and comprehend.

Hard/Tech/Clinical Skills:

  • Current knowledge of clinical practice and patient care requirements for a wide variety of patient types.

  • Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures.

  • Proactively responds and anticipates system needs.

Soft/Interpersonal Skills:

  • Expert skills in communication, conflict resolution, negotiation, collaboration and problem solving.

  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
