Days (United States of America)Job Summary: The Pharmacy Manager directs and manages the operation, marketing, customer satisfaction, profitability, and clinical outcomes of one or more departments. The Pharmacy Manager is responsible for facilitating the planning, organization, implementation and control of the resources needed for optimal performance of the department in coordination with physicians, other clinicians, Direct Reports, and support staff. The Pharmacy Manager is accountable for delivery of high quality care and for the administrative management of the department on a 24-hour basis. Provides care and/or instructions to meet the specific needs and behaviors of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and/or geriatric patients.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Graduate of an accredited A.C.P.E. college of pharmacy; Licensed to practice pharmacy in South Carolina. Preferred Education: Doctor of Pharmacy or Masters Degree in Health Care Administration or Business.
Experience: Six years experience as a Registered Pharmacist. Three 3 years experience in a management/supervisor position preferred, one year required.
Licensure/Certification: Licensed by the Board of Pharmacy to practice the profession of pharmacy in S.C.

Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of professional pharmacy practices. Knowledge of hospital pharmacy medical distribution systems. Possesses skills necessary to monitor medication therapies in relation to the age of the patient. Skill in reading and interpreting the English language. Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions. Skill in establishing and maintaining an effective working relationship with patients, hospital/medical staff, and the public. Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to communicate clearly. Must be skilled in leadership and management techniques. Must be able to effectively supervise all departmental personnel. Must have knowledgeable in the budgetary process; financial management through variance analysis, revenue and competitive pricing; purchasing controls and inventory.

Contacts: Constant interaction with patients, family members, physicians, nurses, and other ancillary personnel.
Work Demands/Environment:
Work is performed in the patient care areas, decentralized and main pharmacies. Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, stooping. Intermittent lifting, moving or carrying, pushing or pulling up to 50 lbs. Frequent use of finger/hand dexterity. Constant reaching with hands/arms. Frequent talking or hearing. Corrected hearing and vision to normal range. Exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue. Possible exposure to infectious materials, communicable diseases, toxic substances, biohazardous materials and/or other conditions common to a pharmacy environment. Intermittent exposure to risk of exposure to blood-borne pathogens. Moderate noise level in work area. Requires work under stressful conditions, deadlines, or irregular hours. May be required to take call and/or work weekends/holidays based on the needs of the department.

Manages/retains staff effectively as the Chief Retention Officer through effective recruitment,
hiring, orientation, training, staff advocacy, performance review and evaluation, continuous development of staff, coaching, disciplining, resolving problems and utilizing staff to ensure quality work is completed in a timely fashion while maintaining budgetary limitations.

2. Fiscal Management
Develops and manages departmental budget using past and present data as well as future data based on projected needs. Utilizes variance analysis and makes operational adjustments when necessary to effectively operate the unit or department while maintaining budgetary limitations.

3. Planning/Marketing
Develops annual operating plan encompassing current and projected product or service supply and demand, analyzes customer survey results and incorporates data into making or recommending changes, prepares for regulatory changes or ensures regulatory compliance.

4. Quality
Exceeds or maintains high quality within department by ensuring (1) personnel are properly trained and oriented (2) departmental policies, procedures, standards of care, etc. are understood and adhered to (3) appropriate documentation is completed in a timely, accurate manner (4) customer satisfaction information is evaluated to improve unit or department quality in all areas and (5) complex departmental issues or problems are reviewed, evaluated and changed when necessary.

Exceeds or maintains a safe working environment for patients, employees and other customers by ensuring (1) employees have appropriate safety training and clearly understand all safety policies and required actions (2) all clinical staff are adequately trained in the appropriate age specific competencies to protect patients (3) all employees adhere to infection control sanitary procedures and practices within the unit or department to ensure all unsanitary or unsafe conditions are resolved immediately.
