Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
The Lead RN provides specialized occupational health nursing care for acute and preventive individuals. This role facilitates communication between health care providers, employees and employers in order to provide quality, efficient health care.

Essential Job Functions

  • Leads a clinical team consisting of Registered Nurses, License Practical Nurses, Occupational Health and Safety Technicians, Case Management Coordinator and Substance Abuse Technicians.

  • Orchestrates all of clinic employee health functions.

  • Conducts routine chart audits.

  • Provides training and coaching of all new and existing employees as needed.

  • Ensures that all clinical staff’s competencies and certifications are current.

  • Demonstrates ability to make independent clinical judgments according to applicable standards of practice and provider instructions.

  • Partners with the clinic supervisor to enhance the clinic operation, and process improvement.

  • Partners with physicians to continue demonstrating best practice.

  • Implements an organized clinical process

  • Manages the cleanliness of clinical and patient areas

  • Establishes goals and objectives for clinic staff and operations.

  • Maintains productivity at target levels by analyzing the volume and the minimal number of clinical staff required.

  • Develops, implements, and maintains clinic operational policy and procedure.

  • Ensures compliance with hospital, state, and federal regulations.

  • Provides or ensures appropriate training and competency for all clinic staff members.

  • Develops and maintains positive client relationships and problem solves when service issues arise.

  • Attends Environment of Care, Infection Prevention, and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) meetings.

  • Presents charts during a regulatory audit.

  • Organizes and maintains efficient treatment areas by maintaining cost-effective and medically appropriate inventory of supplies and equipment. Cleans, calibrates, sterilizes and maintains equipment as appropriate.

  • Performs a variety of physical assessments to include the following: Occupational and medical history, Physical exam, Vision screenings, Hearing screenings, Spirometry, EKG, Graded exercise tests, Breath Alcohol Tests, Urine Drug Screens, Venipuncture, Employee Health, Vaccine administration.

Licensing/Certification

Current RN License in the state in which they are working or covered by compact or RN applicant (required)

BLS Basic Life Support (required)

Progress towards certification in Occupational Health Nursing (preferred)

Pulmonary Function certification (preferred)

Hearing Conservation certification (preferred)


Education
Associates Degree in Nursing (required)
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) (preferred)

Work Experience
3 years of experience working in acute care of adults (required)
1 year of occupational health experience (preferred)

Adults (18-64 years)
Geriatrics (65 years and older)
