Location: The Roper Learning Center - Farmfield Avenue Charleston, SC

Shift: Day shift 8:00am - 5:00pm

The Roper Learning Center is a child care center for children from 6 weeks to 5 years of age. It is open to the public, but this is primarily for the teammates of Roper St. Francis Healthcare.

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Director is responsible for all facets of the Center’s operation. This includes but not restricted to planning, budgeting, implementing, organizing and monitoring the quality educational program for children from 6 weeks to 5 years of age. The Director ensures that the Center meets all S.C. regulatory requirements and maintains NAEYC accreditation.

Essential Job Functions

  • Accomplishes the mission of the department.
    • Ensures the employees of Roper Saint Francis Healthcare are provided with a quality childcare program.
    • Provides children with quality childcare based on a developmentally appropriate program.
    • Provides an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust between the parents and the department through positive communication.
  • Accomplishes administrative and management responsibilities.
    • Supervises all personnel including hiring, orientation, evaluation and scheduling of staff.
    • Ensures the development and review of all policies and procedures of the Roper Learning Center.
    • Ensures the development of recordkeeping systems essential to effective program operation.
    • Assists in the development of the department’s budget and ensures expenditures are maintained within the limits set by the operating budget.
  • Maintains a quality early childhood program.
    • Maintain enrollment levels and monitors parent satisfaction.
    • Implements a developmentally appropriate program that contributes to the growth and development of children.
    • Maintains resources to meet the departments needs and within the budgeted expenditures.
    • Maintains awareness of issues, trends and practices in the child development and education fields on a national, state and regional level.
    • Ensures the department is in compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
    • Maintains NEAYC accreditation.
  • Performs other job duties and responsibilities as required.

Licensing/Certification

DSS regulations requires that CPR and First Aid certification by the National Safety Council be successfully completed within 90 days of employment.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or a related field from an accredited college (Required)

Work Experience

3 years teaching experience with infants and young children (Required)

3 years’ experience supervising other staff (Required)

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, stooping, and sitting on the floor. Frequent lifting/moving children, equipment etc. Pushing, pulling, lifting, moving or carrying up to 50 lbs without restrictions. Frequent use of finger/hand dexterity. Constant reaching with hands/arms. Frequent talking or hearing. Corrected hearing and vision to normal range. Possible exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue. Possible exposure to infectious materials, communicable diseases and/or other conditions common to a childcare environment. Intermittent exposure to risk of exposure to blood-borne pathogens. Must be able to withstand outdoor temperatures in all seasons of the year. Must be able to move quickly to assist and interact with children. Must be compassionate and understand the needs of the children. Must be able to respond quickly, calmly and effectively in a crisis. Moderate noise level in work area. May be required to work flexible hours based on the needs of the department.

Skills

Hard/Tech/Clinical Skills:

  • Must be familiar with current trends in early childhood development and education.
  • Must be familiar with NAEYC accreditation.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Ezycare programs.

Soft/Interpersonal Skills:

  • Communicates effectively with infants, children and adults,
  • Strong oral and written skills.
  • Must possess organizational and leadership abilities
