Job Summary:
Maintain the highest and safest level of plant and associated equipment readiness and operation. Insure that all preventive and corrective maintenance is performed to standards set forth by department policy and procedure, and ensure that all department policies and procedures are current with accrediting authorities having jurisdiction (e.g., SC DHEC, TJC). Leads and supervises the Engineering team including the following areas: human resource management including staffing, completion and revision of job descriptions, and performance evaluation, recognition and disciplinary matters; financial management including development and execution of the Engineering Department budget and responsibility for benchmark performance including productivity; customer service initiatives; and, workload management including timely and high quality completion of preventive and corrective maintenance and construction projects. Ensures a safe working environment for all department employees. Develops and assists in the development, implementation, and coordination of operations programs and projects. Manages renovation and construction projects using project management techniques. Manages efficient use of utility systems including implementing energy conservation measures and participates actively in the Environment of Care Committee. Performs all other duties assigned by the Engineering Service Line Director and participates in hospital “on-call” status.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college or university and at least 2 years engineering management and supervisory experience, OR Associates Degree and at least 5 years engineering management and supervisory experience, OR HS Diploma and at least 10 years management experience . Experience must be of proven high level engineering performance in an environment that can be assimilated to Health Care; supervisory experience leading at least 5 people is required.
Licensure/Certification: Valid, current SC driver’s license

Knowledge/Skills: Technically oriented individual competent in mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and other plant and related equipment, and facility maintenance; Possess basic knowledge of all relevant guidelines, mandates and codes to include but not limited to SC DHEC, TJC, NFPA, OSHA, EPA and Fire and Life Safety Codes; Computer skills in order to write reports, compose and receive/respond to email, manipulate data bases and other specialty engineering and facility maintenance software programs including CAD; time management skills to lead staff in coordination and timely/high quality completion of preventive and corrective maintenance and projects; leadership skills to supervise, guide and direct staff; and, customer service skills to meet customer needs and expectations.
