Position Details: Monday through Friday, Work hours 7am to 3:30pm; or 7am to 5:30pm (Option of 4 10-hour shifts. Call is required.

Job Summary:
Performs skilled technical tasks in Endoscopy under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. Assists in the care of patients with gastrointestinal and pulmonary problems. Prepares rooms and equipment for procedures. Cleans, disinfects and prepares endoscopy instruments according to manufacturer and professional organization recommendations and hospital protocols. Participates in team building and quality initiatives.


Education: Graduate of an accredited High School or GED equivalency examination required.

Experience: One year clinical endoscopy experience required.


Licensure/Certification: Must have a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card.

Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of GI endoscopy equipment and procedures required. Medical terminology, basic computer and clerical skills. Proficient in written and spoken English grammar and spelling. Neat, legible handwriting. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with patients, physicians, other staff/team members. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe working environment. Ability to safely handle equipment with consideration for infection prevention, personal safety and avoiding damage to the equipment. Follows established hospital and department protocols. Strong observational skills. Ability to organize time and workspace.
Other:
Must complete the SGNA Associates Program, an on-line Education Program, within 3 years of
employment. Participates in on-going in-service education and training to validate and refresh basic skills
and acquire new skills and knowledge. A minimum of five hours of GI/Endoscopy-specific education is
required annually. SGNA membership preferred.

Work Demands/Environment:
Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, stooping. Frequent lifting/moving patients. Intermittent lifting, moving or carrying up to 50 lbs. Frequent pushing or pulling up to 50 lbs. Frequent use of finger/hand dexterity. Constant reaching with hands/arms. Frequent talking or hearing. Corrected hearing and vision to normal range. Exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue. Possible exposure to infectious materials, communicable diseases and/or other conditions common to a healthcare environment. Intermittent exposure to risk of exposure to blood-borne pathogens. Moderate noise level in work area. Requires work under stressful conditions, deadlines, or irregular hours. May be required to take call and/or work weekends/holidays based on the needs of the department.
