Job Description

RESEARCH SPECIALIST III

Non-Exempt

Part – Time – 20 hours/ week

Monday – Friday flexible hours between 2 – 8pm, occasional Saturdays required

Job Responsibilities

  • 35% - Complete all fixation, embedding, staining, and sectioning protocols necessary to produce thick and thin sections for varied tissue and/or cell preparations.

  • 35% - Operate the transmission electron microscope to complete sample imaging and analysis culminating is the production and storage of digital images.

  • 10% - Record, label and document all specimens received by the laboratory to ensure records and results are maintained for users of the laboratory and proper user fees are assigned.

  • 10% - Instruct graduate students and faculty researchers on the use of

  • 10% - Other duties as assigned by the Director of EM in support of the research and clinical operations.

MUSC Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:

A bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or other natural, life or health care science directly related to the assigned area of research and two years advanced journel-level work experience in a clinical or research setting.

Preferred Requirements:

- Must have experience in handling laboratory mice, including harvesting and processing various tissues. Must have extensive knowledge in histology, cell ultrastructure, and light and electron microscopy. Must have advanced computer skills and meticulous record keeping skills.
