Job Description

The Patient Access Representative I at MUSC Health East Cooper Medical Pavilion serves as the first point of contact for our patients, providing front-line administrative support. This role is responsible for ensuring an efficient, courteous, and accurate registration process while supporting timely access to care and promoting a positive patient experience. Primary responsibilities include greeting and welcoming patients and their families, obtaining and verifying demographic and insurance information, collecting payments and outstanding balances, and completing all pre-registration, registration, and compliance-related documentation in accordance with regulatory and institutional standards. These tasks are performed using the Epic electronic health record (EHR) system. This team member also conducts insurance verification and schedules follow-up and referral appointments within Epic as required. The Patient Access Representative I is expected to meet established productivity and service quality standards while maintaining strict compliance with HIPAA and institutional confidentiality guidelines. Additional responsibilities include supporting coordination of care and contributing to an environment that is committed to upholding excellence in customer service and patient-centered care.

Additional Job Description

Required Minimum Training and Education: High School diploma or equivalent education required. One year of customer service experience. Must have basic computer skills. Previous healthcare front desk experience preferred. Demonstrate ability to organize and prioritize work, provide excellent verbal and written communication, interact tactfully with customers and establish and maintain effective relationships with others.

Physical Requirements: Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift and/or carry objects weighing 20 lbs (+/-) unassisted. Lift from 36" to overhead 15 lbs. Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.
