Job Description Summary
Inspects construction performed by contractors at the Medical University of South Carolina to ensure that work complies with the plans and specifications and has been done in accordance with pertinent codes, regulations, and standards of craftsmanship. Prepares reports detailing results of inspections, problems encountered and solutions devised. Job Description
Inspects construction performed by contractors at the Medical University of South Carolina to ensure that work complies with the plans and specifications and has been done in accordance with pertinent codes, regulations, and standards of craftsmanship. Prepares reports detailing results of inspections, problems encountered and solutions devised. Plans and coordinates outages with customers and provides general supervision of construction work done by contractors and MUSC forces on alteration and repair projects. Ensures that work is done in accordance with plans and specifications in a timely and efficient manner with minimum adverse impact on existing, adjacent occupants.
15% - Documents field decisions. Prepares daily logs, reports, etc.
15% - Helps resolve problems or conflicts which arise during the course of work by discussions with contractors and MUSC superintendents, project manager and colleagues, or through own knowledge and background.
20% - Reviews construction schedules showing when each portion of work is to start and stop. Coordinates schedule with contractor, occupants, and Engineering and Facilities forces, when applicable. Arranges to have work site available. Arranges for parking, equipment and material storage site. Coordinates with personnel in adjacent areas as to impact on them of proposed work. Works with the contractor to readjust schedules as required to meet needs of others.
20% - Reviews shop drawings, verifies dimensions, and checks material on the job against approved documents. Checks that work is done in the proper manner and meets applicable codes and regulations. Conducts inspections of work in place. Coordinates on site vertical and horizontal traffic. Coordinates outages or existing utility systems. Verifies that material and equipment have been ordered in a timely manner.
20% - Through frequent visits to work site, meetings, and conferences, ensures that work is progressing smoothly and in accordance with plans and specifications.
5% - Performs other related and non-related duties as assigned.
5% - Prepares detailed lists of deficiencies (punch lists) as projects near completion.

Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and four years professional experience directly related to the area of employment.
