Job Description Summary

The Communications and Marketing Coordinator will be responsible for internal communications channels and create content for a variety of communication and marketing programs.

The communications Coordinator will play a key role in the college’s internal communications, assisting in establishing new communications initiatives and improving existing ones. This role helps keep CDM faculty, staff, residents and students informed of timely information; inspires a culture of collaboration, integration and interprofessionalism in our talented workforce; and drives greater awareness of the college’s mission to innovate the future of oral health and wellness through education, research and patient care.

This position supports the annual objectives for the communications and marketing function, reports directly to the college’s Communications and Marketing Director, and works collaboratively with internal clients to execute on communications tactics. The communications professional is able to balance multiple and changing deadlines, build trust with internal clients, and partner effectively with colleagues.

Job Description

35% Internal news – The College of Dental Medicine currently uses the Dental Bites email newsletter as its primary internal communications vehicle. Responsible for developing, writing in AP style, providing visual content, disseminating, and tracking of Dental Bites. Evaluates and reports on performance of the newsletter. Seeks news and stories to help build the college’s pipeline of brand stories and populate external content calendars. May assist with additional internal email communications.

25% Web communications – Performs content updates to CDM web pages, to maintain timely and accurate information. Maintain and update provider profiles in collaboration with each faculty provider to ensure profiles are up to date. This includes the addition and removal of new and old staff. Ensures consistency and compliance with MUSC brand and web guidelines, and seeks to optimize content for search engines, in support of CDM web objectives. Collaborates with academic program coordinators, Student Affairs, HR and administration to maintain update schedules and maintain employee resources on the Horseshoe intranet.

20% Visual communications – Uses digital design templates to assist in content creation for various print and digital channels, including email, digital and print signage, social media, video, flyers, resident and faculty composites, and handbooks. Along with other members of the college’s communications and marketing team, serves as a brand ambassador, guiding internal stakeholders to comply with brand standards and complete the approval process for branded materials.

15% Digital signs – Responsible for planning, creating branded PowerPoint slide content, scheduling, and posting news on the college’s digital signs. Manages the content system and plug-ins, and obtains tech support when needed. Liaises with university communication team to align with university best practices.

5% Other duties as assigned.
