Job Description Summary
The Medical University of South Carolina, Department of Clinical Sciences, invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure, open-rank faculty position to serve as Clinical Coordinator for the Pathologists’ Assistant (PathA) Program. The PathA Program, housed within the College of Health Professions, is dedicated to preparing highly competent and compassionate Pathologists’ Assistants through high-quality didactic instruction, intentional clinical training, interprofessional education, and meaningful scholarly engagement.The Clinical Coordinator plays a central role in supporting and advancing the program’s clinical education operations. Working closely with the Program Director, didactic faculty, and the College’s Clinical Education team, this faculty member will ensure that all clinical rotations meet NAACLS accreditation standards, provide a high-quality learning experience, and reflect best practices in PathA training. Responsibilities include developing, coordinating, and evaluating clinical sites; onboarding and supporting clinical preceptors; teaching within the curriculum; and advising students as they progress through clinical training.
Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and credentials.

Job Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Clinical Education Coordination
Establish and maintain strong affiliate relationships with external pathology and laboratory medicine clinical sites to ensure high-quality PathA clinical training.
Prepare, schedule, and monitor clinical rotation assignments, tracking student progression and competency development across all clinical experiences.
Collaborate closely with the College’s Clinical Education staff to ensure all students meet onboarding, compliance, and credentialing requirements prior to entering any clinical rotation.
Serve as the primary liaison between the PathA program, students, clinical site coordinators, and clinical preceptors to support communication, resolve issues, and promote an excellent learning environment.
Collect, review, and maintain student evaluations, preceptor feedback, and clinical site assessments to support continuous evaluation and improvement of clinical education.
Faculty Instruction and Academic Duties:
Assist in recruiting and retaining qualified program faculty.
Promote and support faculty development and scholarship.
Advise and mentor students, providing academic and career guidance.
Assist with the recruitment of highly qualified Pathologists’ Assistant students who represent diverse populations.
Assist in ensuring adherence to the National Accreditation Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) standards, policies, and guidelines as assigned by the program director.
Contribute to student instruction as a course director for practicum courses.
Share didactic teaching responsibilities within the PathA division, contributing to the delivery of high-quality educational content.
Support curriculum development to align with educational and clinical instruction goals.
Engage in interprofessional education initiatives to promote collaboration across healthcare disciplines.
Represent the program in university committees and community outreach activities.
Scholarship and Professional Engagement
Contribute to scholarly activities, research, presentations, and publications in Pathologists’ Assistant education and practice.
Engage in professional development and continuing education to stay current in the field.
Qualifications:
Board Certified Pathologists’ Assistant (ASCP).
Master’s degree from a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program.
Minimum of 2 years of professional experience as a Pathologists’ Assistant.
Teaching experience in an academic setting is preferred.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
