Job Description Summary

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Medical University of South Carolina
(MUSC) is seeking an academically oriented Cytopathologist for a tenure track position at the
level of Assistant or Associate Professor. Rank and salary will be commensurate with
qualifications and experience.

Job Description

The Cytopathology Service at MUSC annually examines over 20,000 gynecologic and 9,000
non-gynecologic specimens, including approximately 4,000 fine needle aspiration (FNA)
specimens. On-site adequacy assessments are performed in both in person and via
Telecytopathology. Immunocytochemical, ultrastructural, and flow cytometric analysis is
available for pertinent cases. Cytopathology section offers three ACGME-accredited fellowship
positions each year.


Candidate will participate all aspects of the Cytopathology service at MUSC, including sign-out
of GYN and Non-GYN cases, perform FNA procedures, and on-site rapid evaluation. The
individual will also participate in teaching medical students, training pathology residents and
cytopathology fellows, and be actively involved in academic mission of the university and
medical center.


Requirements: Candidate must hold an MD or DO degree, and be certified by the American
Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. Subspecialty fellowship training from
an ACGME-accredited cytopathology program is required. Candidate must be eligible to hold a
medical license in South Carolina.
