Job Description
- Radiologic Technologists will have the opportunity to train in the Mammography Department. Under the direct supervision of Registered Mammography Technologists and the Breast Imaging Leadership Team, RTs will gain hands-on experience and develop specialized skills necessary to perform mammographic imaging in accordance with departmental standards and regulatory guidelines.
- Candidates must hold a current South Carolina Radiologic Technologist License, a valid BLS certification, and be registered through the ARRT.
- Must demonstrate flexibility and willingness to train and work at various outreach locations throughout the Charleston area.
Program Requirements
Trainee will be paid 5% less than the current hiring scale for a mammography technologist and will be brought up 5% once they pass their registry. Trainee will be required to complete and maintain exam checkoffs/paperwork to sit for the mammography registry. Trainee is expected to receive certification within six months of hire and commit to one year of employment from the certification date. Should the trainee leave before the two-year commitment, they will be expected to reimburse the department for the cost of exam. If the trainee does not pass the certification exam on the first attempt, they must retake it within six weeks at their own expense. The trainee will be terminated from the program if certification is not obtained within a year of starting the program. The individual will be eligible to apply to other positions for which they are qualified. Selected candidates will receive a $1,000 bonus to help with the expense of a structured online education courses.
Training Pathway
Trainee will perform 40 hours of specific training in Mammography to include the following by an outside training program. A recommended course is Medical Technology Management Institute (MTMI) https://www.mtmi.net/course/initial-mammography-training-course-0. Positioning/Compression Physiology Breast Anatomy QA/QC Breast Implants A minimum of 25 supervised patient exams (up to 12.5 hours) can be counted toward the 40 hours but must be documented. Trainee will observe a minimum of 25 mammograms before performing exams. Preceptor and trainee will meet weekly to review progress and share feedback. Trainee will complete image critique with LIP or designee.
Twenty-five exams will be reviewed as part of the EQUIP Radiologist group review before successfully completing training program.
Once 40 hours of training is complete, the trainee will submit paperwork to the ACR and schedule exam to sit for the mammography registry.

Education and Work Experience
Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program. Prior completion of ARRT Structured Education Requirements for Mammography is preferred. Completion of Clinical Experience Requirements, Structured Education Requirements, and ARRT Credentials in Mammography within a year of starting the program.
