Job Description
Assists in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with pulmonary disorders. Collects and analyzes sputum, blood, and breath specimens to determine levels of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and other gases. Also measures the lung capacity of a patient to determine if there is impaired function. Administers treatment prescribed by a physician for the care of patients with abnormalities associated with the process of breathing. Assumes primary responsibility for respiratory care treatments, including oversight of respiratory therapy technicians.Additional Job Description
AAS in Respiratory Care from an AMA approved School of Respiratory Therapy. Certification in a specialty area strongly preferred.
Licensure/Certification: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). Licensed by the Board of Medical Examiners of S.C.
Work Experience: Four years of practice in respiratory care specific to acute care delivery in specified patient populations, with at least one year of tertiary level respiratory care work experience. Leadership experience as a shift, team, educator or departmental leader is required. Work and/or educational experience centered on promoting group/team working relations is required. Extensive knowledge of the department’s patient population, health care trends, community and regional resources and service availability to these populations. Demonstrated ability to role model and establish effective collegial working relationships and communications with diverse groups and individuals, medical staff, and other healthcare disciplines. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite. Strong time management, project management, technical, critical thinking, and clinical skills are required. Knowledge of regulatory requirements preferred.
