Job Description Summary

The Clinical Practice Nurse Expert (CPNE) for Vascular and Interventional Radiology (VIR) is a clinical leader responsible for advancing nursing practice, promoting evidence-based care, and ensuring high-quality outcomes in the VIR procedural setting. The VIR CPNE will be a part of the procedural team and work in a 60% clinical and 40% educational. The VIR CPNE reports directly to the RN Supervisor and indirectly to the Operations manager. This role serves as an expert resource for clinical standards, patient care protocols, staff education, and professional development. The CPNE collaborates with leadership, interdisciplinary teams, and educators to support clinical excellence, patient safety, and regulatory compliance while fostering a culture of continuous improvement in both adult and Pediatric populations.

Job Description

Provides nursing care to patients using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation). Directs and leads other assigned team members and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to provide age/developmentally appropriate care in accordance with nursing standards of care and practice. Provide patient/family centered care using the nursing process and focusing on the physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs. Maintains a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment through ensuring patient privacy and responsive, respectful, accepting, and professional behavior. Demonstrates the ability to function in a professional setting through active participation in a professional practice model. This includes participating in shared governance, adherence to standards of care, participation in peer review and professional development promoting leadership and clinical excellence, effective team skills, autonomous practice and acknowledgment of accountability for actions and critical thinking. Coordinates the effective and efficient delivery of patient care services through the application of care management principles. Identifies clinical priorities and initiates action to improve patient outcomes. Demonstrates ability to function in a professional practice model through active participation in shared governance, promotion of a healthy work environment and acceptance of personal responsibility for professional growth.

Additional Job Description

Minimum Requirements: Education: Bachelor’s degree in nursing or Equivalent Work Experience: 4 years progressive work. If ADN, per MUSC policy RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification or American Red Cross ACLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required. Excellent collaboration and consultation skills required. Excellent communication and teamwork skills required. Basic computer knowledge including Microsoft Office. Familiar with quality improvement methodology. Credentials: Licensure as a registered nurse by the state of South Carolina or compact state required.

Additional Job Description

BSN required and completion of MSN or graduate degree in related field acceptable from an accredited college/university within four years. Two years of clinical experience in area of expertise required. Successful completion of RN III Clinical Ladder advancement within 2 years in position required. Excellent collaboration and consultation skills required. Excellent communication and teamwork skills required. Basic computer knowledge including Microsoft Office. Familiar with quality improvement methodology. Advanced certification in a specialized field preferred. Current South Carolina licensure as a registered nurse or compact state required. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required
