Job Description

Job Summary

The Women's Reproductive Behavioral Health Division is seeking to hire a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A) who has met education and examination requirements by the South Carolina LLR to practice under supervision. The candidate will receive supervision provided by a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S), necessary to obtain independent licensure (LPC). The candidate will work with their supervisor and collaboratively within an integrated behavioral health program and provide evidence-based psychotherapies to pregnant and postpartum women with mental health and substance use disorders. The position entails providing psychotherapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing and Relapse Prevention, as appropriate, to peripartum women with mental health and substance use disorders. The candidate may also provide brief supportive therapy and therapy for perinatal grief and loss. Services are provided in-person or via telemedicine. The candidate is responsible for communicating with the mental health, obstetric and/or pediatric providers to ensure care is coordinated and treatment plans are communicated effectively to all involved providers.

Education and Work Experience

Masters Degree and LPC-A licensure is required. Prior experience delivering evidence-based therapies for mental health and substance use disorders is required. Spanish speaking therapist is not required, but preferable. Prior work within integrated behavioral health care models, facilitating groups, and/or work with peripartum women is ideal.

Degree of Supervision

Provider will be practicing independently under a LPC-S supervisor in program.


Licensures, Registrations, Certifications

LPC-A license in South Carolina.

Job Duties

  • 35% - Comply with supervision requirements and provide individual evidence-based psychotherapies primarily in an outpatient setting in-person or via telemedicine. Provide group-based evidence-based psychotherapies primarily in an outpatient setting in-person or via telemedicine.
  • 35% - Coordinate care and effectively communicate treatment and treatment plans with other healthcare providers (i.e., Ob/Gyns, Pediatricians, other mental health and substance use disorder providers). Attend relevant team meetings and conferences.
  • 20% - May be asked to assist with conducting brief assessments, motivational interviewing and arranging mental health and substance use disorder treatment.
  • 10% - May be asked to provide therapy on inpatient services for peripartum women.

Additional Job Description

Education: Bachelors Degree or equivalent Work Experience: 2-4 years
State licensure and/or professional certification requirement/s dependent on position.
