Job Description Summary

The Pediatric Cardiac Sonographer I reports to the Perioperative Interventional Cardiology and Imaging Manager. Under direct supervision, the Pediatric Cardiac Sonographer I provides high quality echocardiograms for interpretation and diagnosis by a Pediatric Cardiologist in a professional manner that is consistent with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. This role requires efficient performance of clinical Pediatric Echo operations in the hospital and procedural setting, including entering full preliminary reports. The majority of the Sono I training will be at SJCH with a 1:1 clinical preceptor and with limited clinical site(s) coverage. This role organizes and prioritizes patient exams and contributes to unit teamwork. Applicants will remain in the Sono I role until able to pass the comprehensive pediatric board exam (usually 12-18 months post-hire).

Additional Job Description

Education: Graduation from a school of Diagnostic Medical Sonography Work Experience 0-2 years. Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.

For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous) Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction.
