Job Description Summary

The Medical Staff Coordinator is responsible for managing all aspects of the initial appointment and reappointment processes for Medical University of South Carolina's (MUSC) medical staff members. This role ensures compliance with National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), The Joint Commission (TJC), and Det Norske Veritas (DNV) standards. The coordinator will collaborate with MUSC's Credentials Verification Organization (CVO) vendor to perform quality assurance on credentialing files, oversee the expiring records process, build practitioner profiles in EPIC, and maintain accurate and up-to-date credentialing records.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Credentialing and Re-Credentialing:
    • Process initial credentialing and reappointment applications, including verifying healthcare provider information and licensing, conducting background checks, and ensuring that all regulatory requirements are met. ​
    • Collaborate with MUSC's CVO vendor to perform quality assurance audits on credentialing files, ensuring accuracy and completeness.​
  • Data Management:
    • Maintain an up-to-date provider database to ensure that all healthcare providers are licensed, insured, and properly credentialed according to regulatory guidelines. ​
    • Build and update practitioner profiles in EPIC, ensuring consistency and accuracy of information.​
  • Compliance and Quality Assurance:
    • Ensure compliance with NCQA, TJC, DNV, and other regulatory bodies, as well as adherence to MUSC's medical staff bylaws and policies. ​
    • Monitor and manage expiring records, such as licenses, certifications, and insurance, to ensure timely renewals and continuous compliance.​
  • Communication and Coordination:
    • Coordinate with medical staff, department heads, and external agencies to facilitate the credentialing process and resolve any issues or discrepancies.​
    • Provide support for medical staff committees, including preparing agendas, taking minutes, and following up on action items. ​
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain confidentiality and integrity of all credentialing records and documentation.​
    • Generate reports and provide data analysis related to credentialing activities as required.
  • On-Site Support:
    • Provide onsite support at respective site; to include, serving as a point of contact for Q&A [with appropriate escalation to Manager and/or Director as necessary], assisting with Continuing Medical Education [CME] processes, and supporting local medical staff needs.

Additional Job Description

Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance.
