The Ambulatory Surgery Child Life Specialist works closely with a multidisciplinary team, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other allied health professionals to ensure a seamless, child-centered experience. A key component of this role involves leading and supporting parent-present induction, utilizing evidence-based strategies to minimize fear, distress and emotional medical trauma.
The Child Life Specialist focuses on adapting care for neurodivergent and sensory-sensitive children, including development of individualized preparation tools and strategies. The Specialist takes an active role in enhancing the patient and family experience through preoperative tours, ongoing projects aimed at accessibility, emotional safety, and patient satisfaction.
Works as part of the Child Life team to plan and facilitate special events, donations and other departmental projects.
Verbal and written communication skills, ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team, in stressful environment, are all important to the success of this role
Additional Job Description
Education: Minimum Requirements: A master’s degree in child Life is preferred or a Bachelor’s Degree in Child Life with 2+ years of experience. Child Life internship and ACLP Child Life Certification (or eligibility) is required.
