Job Description Summary
The Department of Neurology at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant to join a dynamic human neuroscience research lab focused on Parkinson's disease (PD). Our lab is dedicated to identifying novel neuroimaging biomarkers and understanding the neural mechanisms of PD using advanced MRI, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), and Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS).The successful candidate will play a vital support role in the day-to-day operations of innovative research studies under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator or senior lab staff. This position involves assisting with all aspects of the research process, from participant recruitment and data collection to preliminary data analysis. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual passionate about neuroscience to gain hands-on experience in a cutting-edge clinical research environment and contribute to work that aims to improve the lives of individuals with Parkinson's disease.

Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Recruit, screen, consent, and schedule research participants for study visits. (15%)
- Assist with the acquisition of neuroimaging data (MRI, fMRI) and non-invasive brain stimulation (TMS) under the supervision of senior lab members. Administer standardized cognitive tests, clinical assessments, and behavioral questionnaires to participants. (15%)
- Assist in data entry, database management, and ensuring the quality and accuracy of collected data. (15%)
- Conduct preliminary data processing and analysis according to established protocols. (10%)
- Maintain accurate and organized study records and documentation in compliance with regulatory standards (IRB). (15%)
- Assist in the preparation of research materials, presentations, grants and sections of manuscripts for publication. (15%)
- Provide general administrative and technical support for the lab, including inventory management, and organization of meetings. (15%)
MUSC Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:
A high school diploma and four years of relevant program experience. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required program experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Neuroscience, Psychology, Biology, or a related field.
- Excellent organizational skills and a strong attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally and compassionately with research participants.
- The ability to on assigned tasks and collaboratively as part of a research team.
- A strong desire to learn new research techniques in human neuroscience.
- Prior experience in a research lab, particularly with human subjects.
- Familiarity with data management software (e.g., REDCap, Excel) and statistical packages (e.g., SPSS, R).
- Previous experience or coursework related to neuroimaging (MRI) or psychology/neuroscience testing.
- Basic programming skills (e.g., MATLAB, Python) would be an asset but are not required.
