Job Description Summary

The successful applicant will be an Advanced Practice Provider interested in working full-time in the care of women’s health, in the specialty of Urogynecology. The APP functions as a provider of gynecology services In the Obstetrics and Gynecology Urogynecology clinics. The APP will join a busy and thriving Obstetrics and Gynecology Department that includes 25 ObGyn Specialists, 6 Gynecologic Oncologists, 3 Urogynecologists, 11 Maternal Fetal Medicine providers, and 11 APPs. Job Title: MUSCP Advanced Practice Provider (APP - NP/PA)- Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Division of Urogyn

Job Summary/ Purpose: The successful applicant will be an Advanced Practice Provider interested in working full-time in the care of women’s health, in the specialty of Urogynecology. The APP functions as a provider of gynecology services In the Obstetrics and Gynecology Urogynecology clinics. The APP will join a busy and thriving Obstetrics and Gynecology Department that includes 25 ObGyn Specialists, 6 Gynecologic Oncologists, 3 Urogynecologists, 11 Maternal Fetal Medicine providers, and 11 APPs. Scheduled Work Hours/Shift: Monday-Friday, 8:00am- 5:00pm

Required Training and Experience

Required Minimum Training: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN as noted below.

o AGPNP/ANP (Adult Gerontology Primary Care NP or Adult NP): Adult pts (13 years to death), stable chronic disease state management or primary care setting.

o FNP (Family NP): (birth to death) Stable chronic disease state management, primary care across the lifespan.

Required Minimum Experience: Minimum of 1 years’ Women’s Health experience as a PA, WHNP, CNM.

Preferred Training and Experience

Preferred Training: Physician Assistant (PA) or if APRN, License Type/Certification identified below:

o WHNP (Women’ s Health NP): (12 years to death) OB/GYN services and well women care.

o CNM (Certified Nurse Midwife): OBGYN services and well women care.

Preferred Experience: Minimum of 2 years’ Women’s Health experience as a PA, WHNP, CNM

Degree of Supervision

Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant will be assigned a Primary Supervising/Collaborating Physician employed by MUSC and will report directly to this physician.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations

All certifications must be current and complete prior to start date: Basic Life Support (BLS). If applicable, DHEC and DEA license applications must be started prior to first day.

Job Duties (list job tasks)

Provides direct care to patients through the following activities:

· Takes comprehensive history and health assessments for women presenting for urogynecologic care

· Performs physical examinations, including pelvic exams, in clinic

· Evaluates and treats on the basis of history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guidelines

· Consults with physician when clinically indicated and according to protocols. Will make referrals to other services and specialties, providing patients with information, support, and counseling.

· With independence, manages women’s health care patients in the division of Urogynecology. Provides care consistent with MUSC practice, as well as state and national guidelines and generally accepted standards. Documents care appropriately and in a timely fashion. Acts within his/her scope of practice.

· Undertakes diagnostic and therapeutic office procedures, such as biopsy, urethral catheterization, and pessary fitting

· Possibly acts as an OR surgical assist with appropriate certification

· Performs follow-up notification to patients about results.

· Provides general health education and education about urogynecology-related health problems or situations

· Performs the following procedures in accordance with procedural privileges, skill and proficiency as approved by the Clinical Division Chief: Pessary checks, Bladder instillations, Med checks

· Cares for simple new patients after physician review

· Initiates referrals to other health care provides, and/or consults with the attending physician or the collaborating physician; Establishes and evaluates plans of patient care and outcome on a continuing basis

· Documents and bills for direct care provided

· Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice

· Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research

· Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization

· Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education

· Potential to precept students at MUSC enrolled as an advanced practice provider student; and facilitates the learning of other new team members

· APRN or PA must maintain licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, etc. as required by applicable policies and state law

Physical Requirements

Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work

in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force, lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs. Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.

Additional Job Description

Graduation from an approved Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessor agencies. Must be licensed in the state of South Carolina, and certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required
