Job Description Summary

The MUSC Hollings Cancer Center Office of Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) seeks a licensed practical nurse (LPN) to work as a member of the HPV mobile vaccination unit to conduct community-based vaccination clinics to provide vaccines throughout the state of South Carolina.

Job Description

35% Community Outreach and Engagement

  • Participates in collaboration/vaccination clinic planning meetings with the HPV vaccination mobile unit team and community stakeholders.
  • Prioritizes, documents, and completes required tasks for pre-, day of-, and post-vaccination clinic.
  • Fosters positive working relationships with the HPV vaccination mobile unit team. Works with the HPV vaccination mobile unit team to coordinate the vaccination clinic schedule.
  • Interacts with other members of the COE Office, the HPV vaccination mobile unit team, and community partners to achieve desired results.
  • Works flexible hours, including weekdays, weekends, evenings, and overnight stays when necessary to meet the needs of the communities served and in collaboration with community partners for special events.

35% Vaccination Administration

  • Performs routine duties within the limits of training and certification under the direction of a physician or licensed healthcare provider.
  • Under general supervision, provides individualized, goal-directed patient care at the competent level utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process; delivers safe and effective care.
  • Administers prescribed HPV vaccine and childhood immunizations during vaccination clinics.
  • Maintains timely flow to screen, educate, care for, and monitor the patient.
  • Schedule follow-up vaccination clinics as needed.

20% Participates in compliance, recording, and reporting responsibilities

  • Prepares and reviews vaccination clinic consent packets.
  • Ensures accurate calibrations, cleaning, and scheduled maintenance for clinical equipment as required by OSHA, SC DPH, and MUSC - tracked by documentation.
  • Documents all patient care delivered into the medical record (i.e., EPIC) according to the approved medical center policies/procedures.
  • Documents vaccination history and administered vaccines in the SC Statewide Immunization Online Network (SIMON).
  • Adheres to SC DPH guidelines and standards for the VFC Program.
  • Prepares and submits a daily vaccination clinic summary report to the HPV vaccination mobile unit Program Manager.

10% Administrative

  • Performs administrative assignments with the MUSC pediatric VFC Program coordinator to obtain adequate vaccinations.
  • Monitors the temperature data loggers on the vaccine coolers and reports any temperature excursions to the compliance manager and enters the data in SIMON.
  • Maintains and reviews patient records and any other pertinent information, communicating as appropriate. Communicates the care plan to the patient, including formal development of patient education materials as necessary.
  • Takes inventory and orders supplies for the HPV vaccination mobile unit.
  • Cleans as required by SC DPH and OSHA standards and adequately stocks mobile unit examination rooms and other supply areas before and after each vaccination clinic.

Additional Job Description

Minimum Requirements: Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing and two years of related experience as an LPN. Positions in this classificaiton require licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing. Requires certification in Basic Life Support prior to the completion of general orientation.
