Job Description

An outpatient speech-language pathologist (with associated university degree and current SC state SLP license) to assess, diagnose, and treat communication and swallowing disorders. Job duties may include:

Assessment and Diagnosis of patients in an outpatient setting such as:

  • Evaluate patients’ levels of speech, language, or swallowing difficulty.
  • Identify treatment options based on the assessment findings.
  • Create individualized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s needs.

Performing Treatment and Therapy such as:

  • Provide therapy to address speech disorders (e.g., difficulty producing speech sounds correctly or fluently) and language disorders (trouble understanding others or expressing thoughts).
  • Develop holistic treatment plans that consider the patient’s overall well-being.
  • Monitor patients’ progress and adjust treatment as needed.

Collaboration and Education:

  • Liaise with counselors, other healthcare professionals, and family/caregivers.
  • Educate patients and their loved ones about communication strategies and therapy goals.
  • Keep detailed records of patient progress.

Additional Roles may include:

  • Aural rehabilitation for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Providing augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems for severe expressive and/or language comprehension disorders (e.g., autism spectrum disorder).
  • Offering communication enhancement services (e.g., accent modification).

Americal Heart Association BLS certification required.

Additional Job Description

Education

Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology (SLP) and one year clinical work experience as a SLP required. Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) and current licensure in SLP by the State of South Carolina required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider also required.
