Job Description Summary

The laboratory of Dr. Mindy Engevik in the Department of Regenerative Medicine and Cell Biology is looking for a postdoctoral fellow for a new multi-year with an anticipated start date of as soon as possible. The postdoc will be focusing on microbe-host interactions. We are looking for creative candidates with a strong background in microbiology, molecular biology, gut physiology and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience with performing analyses related to various omics techniques such as RNAseq, metabolomics and downstream analyses is a plus. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate a significant level of independence and scientific initiative. The applicant should also be able to demonstrate the ability to mentor students at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Job Description

Job Duties:

35% - To develop and conduct research in consultation with, and under the supervision of Dr. Engevik. Individuals will be responsible for the design and implementation of experiments relevant to the project.

20% - To work closely with PI on developing research grant proposals for the laboratory and to apply for postdoctoral fellowship awards from the NIH, American Heart Association (AHA), and/or from other internal or external sources of funding.

15% - To maintain accurate and up-to-date laboratory records. This includes inputting data into our laboratory documentation for all Engevik lab investigators to access within the confines of MUSC.

15% - To assist in training of graduate students and other laboratory personnel. We anticipate that a successful candidate for this position will be able to mentor at least 2 graduate students who are currently on this project. This includes having one on one meetings with them to go over raw datasets, help with trouble shooting and experimental design and facilitate analyzing data.

15% - To draft manuscripts for publication in reputable peer-reviewed scientific journals and to present work at local, national and/or international conferences.
