Job Description Summary

Performs complex medical evaluations, tests, examinations or analytical procedures in an assigned specialty area. Operates, maintains, calibrates, modifies and repairs complex laboratory equipment. Designs and fabricates complex laboratory instruments. Develops, evaluates and implements new or modified laboratory procedures. Prepares and maintains laboratory or patient records. Instructs medical professionals, paraprofessionals and students in procedures related to an assigned specialty area.

Job Description

35% Sample collection and processing.
• The clinical samples must be collected within 1 hour of notification from the pathology department/investigator.
• Patient and sample are to be registered in the FreezerWorks on the same day. Consent forms scanned and shredded.
• Samples are to be processed on the same day.
- Tissue: Make frozen section, H&E stain, coverslip, and QA of tissue integrity checked by Pathologist, filing of the slides
- Blood: Separate buffy coat and plasma. QA by Pathologist

35% Sample storage and retrieval.
• Storage of the samples in a -80oC freezer, well-organized in the designated area that coincides with the FrezerWorks.
• Retrieval of the samples when requested by Pathologist/Manager.
• Separate storage of the clinical trial samples by PI in the -80oC freezer.

15% PBMC isolation and labeling of the tubes. Once complete, bring the samples to the manager or store appropriately.

10% Inform the manager of instruments, reagents, and supplies to be ordered on a monthly basis. No delay in work due to lack of instruments, reagents, and supplies.

5% Attend BTA weekly meetings and BTA training meetings.

MUSC Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:

A bachelor's degree in a related medical or scientific discipline; or an associate degree or equivalent technical training in a related medical, scientific or technical discipline and two years journey-level work experience in a related field.
