Job Description Summary

To function as a maintenance technician for the MUSC Office of Parking Management.
Inspects, monitors and helps maintain the parking facilities which include 7 parking garages
and 45 surface lots totaling 9,300 spaces, 67 gated lanes and 8 cashier/attendant booths.

Must have knowledge in electrical systems to be able to perform maintenance and installation of parking gates and equipment. Must understand electrical and plumbing systems so as to be able to recognize conditions in parking garages which should be reported out. Must be proficient in the use of various power tools and equipment. Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with internal and external customers. Also must be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Must perform with a spirit of service and cooperation.

Employee works under the direct supervision of the maintenance manager or other designated supervisor in absence of manager.
Employee is required to adhere to the prescribed uniform policy within the department. Employee must be flexible to work different shifts when circumstances require. Must have the ability and willingness to work outdoors in all weather and temperature extremes. Must have the ability to work in confined, cramped spaces, elevated areas, and below ground. Must possess good grip strength and have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs, unassisted.

Job Duties:

1.1 Performs preventive and corrective maintenance in the parking system to include maintenance of the gate control system, repairing damaged gate housings/arms, installing parking gates and equipment, and performing preventative maintenance of parking gates and equipment. 30%

1.2 Maintains the interior and exterior lighting systems of the parking garages and lighted 30.0% of total score surface lots. Performs non-code-related duties involving electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems, as directed by the maintenance supervisor. Recognizes conditions in the lighting and other building systems that require specialized attention and reports them to the supervisor to have work orders created to complete and track the work. 30%

1.3 Assists in maintaining lines and markings in parking facilities, installing wheel stops and maintaining parking regulatory signs. Operates manual and powered paint application systems, sweepers, blowers and cleaners. 20%

1.4 Assists in maintaining an inventory of parking equipment, repair parts and supplies; and assists in maintaining preventive maintenance records. Performs other duties as directed by the maintenance supervisor. 20%
