Job Description Summary


The purpose of the MUSC Foundation is to provide financial and other support to the Medical University of South Carolina and to MUSC Health. This happens in four primary ways:

Gifts – accept donations, perform fund accounting and reporting functions, process payments to MUSC beneficiaries.

Investments – manage over $650 million in long term and short term investments.

Real Estate – own $78 million of property for the benefit of MUSC.

Other MUSC Support – provide strategic advice and other support to MUSC.

  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, theories and terminology of accounting, banking, budgeting, financial management or investment.

Job Duties


  • Reconciles and interfaces gifts from Raiser's Edge to Financial Edge daily. Updates general ledger distributions, including transaction codes, in Raiser's Edge as necessary to ensure accurate reporting. Identifies and records gift activity not interfaced through Raiser's Edge; records all sources of income and expenses into the general ledger.


  • Prepares and maintains general ledger account reconciliations. Reconciling differences are investigated, often in collaboration with other team members, and followed up on for resolution.


  • Supports Reporting Xpress software platform and is knowledgeable in its application.
  • Aids in adding and changing user permissions, provides advanced training to users, monitors Foundation Reports email, posts Announcements.
  • Responsible for preparing user analysis reports and presenting data on a semiannual basis.
  • Serves as Reporting Xpress project manager to include coordination with Reporting Xpress on maintenance and troubleshooting, new report development, billings, etc. Internally-organizes team members, creates agendas, manages timelines, etc.
  • Other reporting needs outside of Reporting Xpress, for users internal and external to the Foundation, are performed as necessary.


  • Other duties/responsibilities as assigned, to include special analyses and back up to other staff accountants.

Minimum Requirements: A bachelor’s degree and four years professional experience in a related area such as accounting, auditing, finance or commercial lending. A job-related bachelor’s degree with multiple accounting courses may be substituted for two years of the required work experience.
