Job Description Summary

The Department of Healthcare Leadership and Management at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) invites applications for a position at the Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor level (open rank) for individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to teach healthcare economics (primarily). Potential secondary teaching areas include research methods, statistics, or healthcare policy. While this is primarily a teaching position, research endeavors are welcome. Primary responsibilities include teaching in the Master in Health Administration (MHA; CAHME® accredited), Doctor of Health Administration (DHA), or Master of Science in Health Informatics (MSHI; CAHIIM® accredited) programs.

Job Description

The successful candidate must aspire to be an effective teacher who can productively interact with students in a variety of health professions programs. The candidate shall possess an earned Ph.D. or its equivalent in a relevant area of health economics, health administration, or health services research. Teaching experience and relevant work experience are preferred. Scholarly research and publication in the areas of healthcare economics or health services research is highly desirable.

Work Location: This position is a hybrid position with preference given to someone willing to relocate to Charleston due to on-campus teaching requirements. A minimum of 10-20% of the time will be required to be on-campus (Charleston, SC) teaching students in person. Current economic courses are hybrid (two courses), requiring on-campus teaching one week/weekend a semester, and in-person (one course) requiring on-campus teaching one day/week for one semester. The ideal candidate will teach an in-person health economics course for residential MHA students and two hybrid master and doctoral economic courses that meet virtually with one week/weekend a semester in person.
