Job Description Summary

The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, Division of Forensics is seeking a Social Worker to provide direct care and case management to patients in a clinic setting. Provide a wide variety of direct social worker services for a complex caseload of patients/clients including psychosocial assessment, active treatment, discharge planning, case management, and related documentation in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary forensic/and or treatment team.

The primary role in this position is providing services for a wide variety of court ordered forensic evaluations. The responsibilities for the position include obtaining psychosocial information, review and summarizing all pertinent legal and medical records, and shared report writing. The SW also serves as a second examiner on court ordered evaluations under the supervision of the forensic physician or forensic psychologist.

Job Description: The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, Division of Forensics is seeking a Social Worker to provide direct care and case management to patients in a clinic setting. Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The primary job tasks in this position are for services provided for court ordered forensic evaluations.
  • Provides individual and group therapy to adult and adolescent patients in an outpatient community psychiatry treatment clinic located within an academic medical center.
  • Provides mental health case management services and consults with multidisciplinary mental health team in providing comprehensive mental health care on an individual and/or group therapy basis.
  • The incumbent performs highly technical work under professional supervision involving the diagnosis and evaluation of patients in an outpatient psychiatry clinic.
  • Provides clinical services to both an adult and child patient population.
  • Implements and supervises case management, interagency coordination and treatment programs provided by staff.
  • Performs individual and group psychotherapy utilizing advanced psychological tests tailored for individual clients.
  • Performs psychometric evaluations to assist in the diagnosis of depression and anxiety disorders and personality disorders.
  • Prepares assessment and outlines all limitations imposed by medical impairments
  • Interprets and explains medical findings and recommends appropriate developmental action.
  • Interviews client, family and any other providers to assess the patient's level of functioning, strengths and deficits, and emotional status.
    Develops a comprehensive picture of the client's service and treatment needs.
  • Serves as a member of the forensic assessment team in the diagnostic evaluation of clients and the identification of treatment objectives.
  • The incumbent performs highly technical work under professional supervision involving the diagnosis and evaluation of patients in an outpatient psychiatry clinic.
  • Provides services to both an adult and child patient population.
  • Interviews client, family and any other providers to assess accuracy and completion of the case files.

Required Minimum Training and Education: Master’s Degree in Social Work from an accredited program. Three years professional social work experience, one of which must have included supervisory or administrative experience. Hospital experience in the area of Psychiatry is preferred. Experience in forensic case evaluations is optional. The applicant must demonstrate good communications skills and report writing.

Preferred Experience: Previous LISW or LPC experience preferred.

Degree of Supervision: Limited supervision but operates within a clinical team, which includes supervision by a clinical director (MD or PhD).

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Licensed to practice in South Carolina. Licensed in South Carolina. LISW-CP licensure/status is required for outpatient clinical services.
