Job Description Summary
The Oncology Patient Care Coordinator at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center reports to the Navigation and Supportive Care Manager. Under indirect supervision, the Oncology Navigator offers individualized assistance to patients and caregivers to assist in overcoming healthcare system barriers. This role promotes informed decision making and timely access to quality patient care while providing a vital link in communication between multidisciplinary providers both internal and external to MUSC during initial treatment planning.Entity

Assists patients and families with scheduling new patient appointments. Requests and ensures all needed imaging, pathology and records are available for appointments. Works closely with Nurse Navigators and clinical team to facilitate access, address clinical concerns and barriers to care.
This class is typically used for employees who are capable of performing the full range of professional duties in their assigned program area. Some employees serve as first-line supervisors in the less technical or specialized service delivery areas. Provides assistance in the establishment of new programs or the modification of existing programs. Conducts surveys and studies of problems and needs; makes recommendations to appropriate officials. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the status of assigned program area(s). Reviews, evaluates and reports on assigned program area(s). Provides technical assistance and training to staff, management, the public and other governmental entities regarding assigned program area(s). Plans, supervises and participates in agency programs. Reviews the workload and operating procedures of a designated program area; determines priorities and makes staff assignments to control the workload.
Additional Job Description
Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and two years of healthcare experience or high school diploma and 5 years of job experience in certified medical assistant, referral management, oncology navigation or patient access. In addition, the applicant must have considerable knowledge of complex medical terminology, strong interpersonal skills, ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships both internally and externally, strong organizational skills, ability to rapidly prioritize/reprioritize, strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work autonomously and in teams, critical-thinking skills, and ability to multi-task.
