Job Description Summary

nder direct supervision this individual will perform histologic procedures on human tissues to include but not limited to routine histology, special stains, Immunohistochemistry procedures, and frozen sectioning for microscopic examination by a pathologist.

Job Description

Performs complex histological procedures used to prepare specimens of tissue for examination and analysis by a Pathologist. Performs grossing, processing, embedding, microtomy, and both routine and multiple staining of samples. Performs quality control on completed slides. Identifies problems that may affect diagnosis and results. Records observations from tests. Documents maintenance of instruments and equipment used in the lab. Complies with established laboratory policies for universal precautions and safety.

Additional Job Description

Minimum Training and Education: A bachelor’s degree in histotechnology, biology or other related scientific discipline and histotechnologist HTL(ASCP) certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) or equivalent. A minimum of one year of clinical experience in a Histology laboratory.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: HTL(ASCP) certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) or equivalent.
