Job Summary/Purpose: The Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist for the Hematology/Oncology Service Line. The current oncology team includes numerous clinical pharmacists specializing in oncology as well as greater than 10 clinical specialists across various hematology/oncology specialties. The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist will be involved in direct patient care activities such as chemotherapy regimen selection and modification, oral chemotherapy management, collaborative drug therapy management programs (e.g., management of chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting), patient education, staff education and other disease specific initiatives. This qualified individual will serve as the pharmacy liaison to the physician and nursing leaders by representing the department on multidisciplinary initiatives associated with the Hollings Cancer Center. The clinical specialist is responsible for precepting both PGY1 and PGY2 pharmacy residents through learning experiences such as clinical rotations, presentations, projects, and medication-use evaluations. In addition, the candidate will have teaching opportunities in the South Carolina College of Pharmacy that include precepting pharmacy students, providing lectures at the college, and others.
Additional Job Description
Minimum Training and Education: Doctor of Pharmacy degree and completion of pharmacy residency program; two years of clinical or hospital pharmacy experience may substitute for the clinical pharmacy residency program.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: The candidate must also be licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of South Carolina. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities: The candidate must possess or be willing to complete and maintain all necessary requirements to be a PGY2 oncology residency preceptor. Clinical research experience preferred. Oncology Board Certification preferred.
