Job Description Summary

Position Description: The Adult Respiratory Therapist II reports to the RTSL and Adult Respiratory Manager. The Adult Respiratory Therapist II provides a variety of respiratory therapy modalities to patients with cardio-pulmonary dysfunction, including but not limited to mechanical ventilation, respiratory treatments, and oxygen and specialty gases. The Therapist II possesses extensive patient assessment skills and performs at a high level in emergency situations. This position will be able to perform in high acuity ICU such as Surgical Trauma ICU, Burn ICU, Medical ICU, Neuroscience ICU and Level 1 Trauma Center.

Job Description

Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include graduation from a program approved by the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoArc) or a successor accrediting authority and two years’ experience in respiratory care. Has extensive knowledge of respiratory therapy principles, practices, clinical applications, and the ability to act quickly and competently in emergency situations.
Licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner by the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulations Board of Medical Examiners. A Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) is required. A current CPR card is required. The card may be either an American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers card or an American Red Cross Professional Rescuer card.

Ability to perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders (C). Ability to use both legs (C). Ability to reach in all directions (C). Possess good finger dexterity (C). Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions (C). Ability to maintain good olfactory sensory function (C). Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted (I). Ability to lift or lower objects 50 lbs. to and from the floor to 36 inches unassisted (I). Ability to lift from 36 inches to overhead 25 lbs. (I). Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force (F). Ability to maintain vision 20/40 corrected (C). Ability to see and recognize objects nearby or at a distance.
