Job Description Summary

HYBRID REMOTE: Advises administrators regarding contract requirements, provisions of contractual report and financial and agency requirements. Monitors all budgeted amounts pertaining to grants and contracts and makes determinations on overruns; identifies potential for transfers of funds and adjustments to contract provisions. Reviews and recommends adjustments to research proposals, contracts, grants, supplemental fund requests, amendments to contract or grant provisions, reports of inventions, subcontracts and other business and financial provisions. Prepares and monitors the preparation of contract proposals for fund allocation and compatibility with agency objectives.

Job Description

30% Administers and manages negotiations for corporate funded grant and
contract awards. Serves as the official point of contact for MUSC’s
corporate-sponsored research and communicates/corresponds with
corporate sponsors to ensure grants and contracts comply with MUSC’s
institutional policies. Monitors and ensures MUSC’s Corporate sponsored
research agreements comply with Association for Accreditation of Human
Research Protection Plan (AAHRPP) standards and all other areas (e.g.
indemnification, choice of law, etc.) consistent with MUSC, State and
Federal guidelines. Collaborates with MUSC’s IRB to ensure contractual
language and the Informed Consent are consistent. Issues study approval
in the eIRB system. Also collaborates with MUSC Foundation for Research
Development on IP (intellectual property) matters, and ensures MUSC’s IP
rights are protected in the final contract.

25% Review, advise and negotiate all confidential disclosure agreements
and material transfer agreements with the appropriate entity (federal,
foundation, corporate or other) on behalf of MUSC’s research mission to
protect MUSC’s interests and comply with MUSC regulations.

20% Coordinates and/or performs grant and contract administration duties,
including screening of award notices and activating grant and contract
awards, supplements, non-competing continuations, no-cost extensions,
budget revisions, advises faculty researcher and/or departmental research
administration staff. Updates central grants database accordingly once all
such research administration actions are complete. Prepares and
distributes the required award information to departments and the Office of
Grants and Contracts Accounting; processes receipt of award payments for
deposit into appropriate accounts.

20% Pre-audit and assess corporate grants/contracts for fiscal/budgetary
issues to ensure allocations are allowable (cost sharing, applicable F&A
costs, fringe benefits, IRB fees, etc.). Review for appropriate regulatory
issues (Biosafety, IRB, IACUC, COI). In addition, advises investigators,
departmental administrators and the IRB for management and close-out of
corporate projects, including additional revenue, time extension, etc.
Provides guidance and assistance to investigators and departmental staff in
coordinating and obtaining amendments, extensions and budget
modifications.

5% When resources allow attends national, regional and local
conferences/continuing education involving program issues, policies
procedures (e.g. National Council of University Research Administrators
and Society of Research Administrators).

Minimum Requirements: A bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration or the social sciences and four years experience in contracts and grant administration activities.
