Job Description Summary
The Medical University of South Carolina seeks a Curator for the Waring Historical Library, a division of its main library.The Curator enables and facilitates the use of MUSC's historical and archival collections, interacting with researchers pursuing SC medical historical research and responding to reference and informational requests; oversees the day-to-day management and use of the Waring Historical Library including its collections (currently located in three buildings) and facilities.
The Curator is responsible for: processing and maintaining archival collections, including manuscripts, books, artifacts, art, and ephemera; documenting and scheduling conservation of materials; recruiting, training, and supervising student workers, volunteers, and interns; and participating in the development of online and physical exhibits.
The Curator will assist in planning and executing monthly programs, e.g. the Student Medical History Club and annual named lectures; conduct tours of the library; oversee the Macaulay Museum of Dental History, including managing collections, visitors, and programs; participating as a team member of the Waring Historical Library and MUSC Libraries through collaboration and service. The Curator reports to the Director of the Waring Historical Library.
